Friends and Enemies // About Time

This is a comment from the lovely Grace Yee,

I love the timeline that you've developed with your story. I especially love how you combine literary references with your own profound thoughts. When does Willow's story take place? Is it on Earth or in a different realm? If it is in the future, I would assume we have somehow developed a way to teleport from one realm to another (Thank you, Scotty!) and yet the present looks to be a sort of medieval world. Prophecies, archery, creatures like Liberty. I have to admit, that sounds pretty awesome.

So I'd like to basically do a breakdown of the questions, one by one.

   1. When does Willow's story take place? Is it on Earth or a different realm?

Willow's story takes place in a different world, and as they say in the Magician's Nephew, you could travel for all of time through our universe and never reach it. The world is the world that you see in the Star Wars movies, albeit not those planets.
The planet it takes place on is a very far outer rim planet, making it very difficult to get to, so the locals who live there usually just keep to themselves. That's why it would be odd that some Shadow leaders thought it a good idea to take over. It meant nothing in the grand scale of things. Or so the Codebearers thought.

  2. If it is in the future, I would assume we have somehow developed a way to teleport from one realm to another (Thank you, Scotty!) and yet the present looks to be a sort of medieval world.

It is in the future in a sense. Willow is from our world, Earth, or known in the Codebearer books, The Veil. The story takes place in about three years from our present time of 2014, but time is different in that world, of course.
Also, there are portals and Time Vortex Manipulators that people who want to get from one world to the other can use, but most people are unaware of them. Door can be temporary portals, opened for one person at one time only. It's really a fun thing to think up :)
As well, the planet is medieval-ish because they have no access to the outside world, and so have no technology.

3. Prophecies, archery, creatures like Liberty. I have to admit, that sounds pretty awesome.

Thank you! Liberty was actually my sister D's idea. I originally had a bird named Grace, I believe.

Hope that cleared up any questions as to the timeline and such!
Sorry I don't have a chapter, this week was a bit worrisome.
My mom is kind of sick and a choir open house was yesterday,
so there was not much time for writing :(

Be a friend, not an enemy,

Willow

  1. Thank you so much for answering my questions! You're right, the whole thing with portals and Travel Vortex Manipulators is quite fun to think about, and I love the detail about the planet being an outer-rim planet. Sounds very Firefly-ish. I hope all of you keep writing; your stories are wonderful. :-)
